Thailand has participated in every Summer Olympic Games since 1952, with the exception of the Summer Olympics of 1980, when Thailand joined the U.S.-lead boycott. Thailand has also taken part in every Winter Olympic Games since 1980. The Olympics are a huge cable tv event and you’ve probably seen some of these athletes from Thailand complete.

Athletes from Thailand have won twenty-four Olympic medals, seven gold, six silver, and eleven bronze. Their best Olympic Games was 2004 in Athens, where Thailand won eight medals. Thailand’s most successful sports have been boxing, in which they have won 14 medals in total. They have also won seven medals in weightlifting and three in taekwondo.

Thailand’s first Olympic medal was won by Payao Poontarat, who won the bronze for boxing in the men’s light flyweight category at the Summer Olympics in Montreal in 1976. The first Thai woman to medal was Khassaraporn Suta, a weightlifter who competed in the 58 kilogram category at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

Only one Thai athlete has won more than one Olympic medal. That was Manus Boonjumnong, who won the Olympic gold medal for boxing in the light welterweight category at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and the silver medal in the same category at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

A number of Thai athletes have competed at multiple Olympic Games. In the 2012 Games in London, five Thai athletes made their fourth Olympic appearances: pistol shooter Jakkrit Panichpatikum, badminton players Boonsak Ponsana, Sudket Prapakamol, and Saralee Thoungthongkam, and table tennis player Nanthana Komwong.

Of Thailand’s twenty-four Olympic medals, women have won nine, all but one of which was in weightlifting. In fact, it was the women weightlifters who gave Thailand its best ever Olympics in Athens in 2004, winning four of the eight medals Thailand captured that year, two gold and two bronze.

All of Thailand’s Olympic successes have come at the Summer Games. Only one person, Prawat Nagvajara, has represented Thailand in the Winter Games, participating in the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics as a cross-country skier.

Thailand’s only Olympic record holder is Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon, a female weightlifter in the 53 kilogram category at the Olympic Games in London in 2012, who lifted 126 kilograms in the clean and jerk, an Olympic record.

Millions of people in the west have been fascinated with Thai Sports for many decades. Thailand is well-known for producing some of the most talented and dedicated athletes in the world. Westerners have always had an appreciation for the efforts of Thai athletes.

Many western movies over the last thirty years have featured Thai Sports. For example, martial arts films in the nineties showcased Thai boxers. Thailand is the mecca of Thai Boxing. Film producers ventured off into Thailand with hopes of making a dynamic action film with some of Thailand’s best boxers. Western movies have always presented Thai Sports to the public in a positive manner. Western movie creators give the perception that Thai Sports is reserved for world class athletes who are not afraid of pain, blood, and tears. One gets the impression that only strong and gifted individuals will be able to experience success in Thai Sports.

One of the most popular thai sports is without a doubt Muay Thai. This is essentially kickboxing, but competitors can use elbows as well. This sports is one of the most violent and entertaining sports to watch, and the natives can’t get enough of it.

The thing that makes this sport so entertaining to watch is that it is hand-to-hand combat. Blood, sweat, and tears go into each match and each fighter trains to win every time they step inside the ring. These fighters are born into fighting. They train at an early age, much like American children practice and play football.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . It is essentially their national sport and has been for some time now. Muay Thai teaches discipline and honor, which is something that they believe should be instilled into their children at a young age.

Many people travel from different places all over the world to compete in these tournaments. There is some great price money for those willing to sacrifice their body. There are rules to the sports so it is not a no holds bar event. Fighters can only punch, kick, and elbow their opponents. Groin shots are strictly forbidden and will be penalized if they occur.

We all know animals participate in sports with humans. Horse racing is popular and dogs help hunters find their marks, but did you know that animals also participate in their own “sporting events” in the wild?

The birds and the bees is a touchy subject for some, but nature has some of the best dancers around. Bugs like beetles and bees dance to attract their mates.

Wrestling is a common way to attract a mate. Many animals such as mountain goats and deer fight for the affections of their mates.

Weight lifting is another popular event in the animal Olympics.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. Insects like ants can lift up to 50 times their own weight! It’s a good thing most ants are the size of a seed! Imagine what kind of damage they could do if they were the size of a person!

Animals are also endurance athletes. Some sharks have been noted to travel as fast as 20 miles per hour and up to 36 miles in one day! Big cats like cheetahs are some of the fastest animals in the world reaching 60 miles per hour in short bursts.

We can learn a lot from these animal athletes. Perseverance is king in the animal world. While bugs and animals are much smaller than humans, they are able to do things we never could.

Thailand has some outstanding athletes. They will be sending some of these to the 2012 London Olympics. The country generally specializes in boxing and weightlifting where they have gained medals through the years. Thailand has participated in 14 Olympic games since their debut in 1952. Since this time they have participated in all of the Summer Olympics except for the 1980 games held in Moscow. During these years they have earned a total of 21 medals. They have won a total of seven gold medals, four silver medals, and 10 bronze medals.

Thailand has earned medals in only three sports which include boxing weightlifting, and Taekwondo. Thailand has won a total of 13 medals in boxing including four gold; six in weightlifting with three gold; two in Taekwondo with one silver and one bronze.

During the last summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon won gold in that competition. Thailand has also offered some other gold Olympians such as the female weightlifters Pawina Thongsuk and Udomporn Polsak. Another star, in the boxing arena, is Manus Boonjumnong. Boonjumnong was a gold medal winner in Athens and in Beijing was a silver medal winner.

Thailand hopes to have a summer Olympics to match the one they had in 2004. During the Athens Olympics they won a total of eight medals.
