Animals And Sport — Learning the Basics From Nature.
We all know animals participate in sports with humans. Horse racing is popular and dogs help hunters find their marks, but did you know that animals also participate in their own “sporting events†in the wild?
The birds and the bees is a touchy subject for some, but nature has some of the best dancers around. Bugs like beetles and bees dance to attract their mates.
Wrestling is a common way to attract a mate. Many animals such as mountain goats and deer fight for the affections of their mates.
Weight lifting is another popular event in the animal Olympics.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. Insects like ants can lift up to 50 times their own weight! It’s a good thing most ants are the size of a seed! Imagine what kind of damage they could do if they were the size of a person!
Animals are also endurance athletes. Some sharks have been noted to travel as fast as 20 miles per hour and up to 36 miles in one day! Big cats like cheetahs are some of the fastest animals in the world reaching 60 miles per hour in short bursts.
We can learn a lot from these animal athletes. Perseverance is king in the animal world. While bugs and animals are much smaller than humans, they are able to do things we never could.
